I believe its a 1972 because I was told the started putting the hull# on the transom in 1973. Mine is on the front pylon so I believe its a pre 1973 and the number is 6602 I assume the 02 is for 1972. Any info to confirm that let me know.
I have H16 hull #3404 - the 02 is not for 1972 but rather sequential from #1. If you're in the 6xxxs then I'd say you're most likely a 1973 boat. I believe they started marking the transoms in 1974.
According to Hobie Cat, they starting marking the transoms in 1973.
Jim's right - the number is sequential, but 16's and 14's were numbered separately.
The 14 I just finished restoring (although not nearly as nicely as yours ) is hull #5010. It was advertised as a '76, but I'm figuring it's probably a '72.
Thanks I worked pretty hard on since I got it in Oct last fall. It sat in someones backyark for about 15 yrs unused and I got it for next to nothing. I didnt mind putting a little money in because I payed so little for it and it was in very sound shape ( hulls solid , sail and tramp in great shape stored indoors.) although I did not use the tramp because it was white and solid vinyl, I liked black mesh , but ill keep it for a spare if I need it in a pinch. I started buy disassembling the entire boat and sanding and preping the hulls, mast, boom, rudders, tillers, frame, corner castings, and everything else for painting. I sprayed with interlux one part, came out pretty good and a very hard durable finish . replaced just about everything on the entire boat. ( standing rigging , running riggging, homemade tramp with color matching hiking staps and halyard pockets, installed hobie 20 tiller& crossbar ends which I believe is the best thing I did, expensive but worth it because I trailer the boat. overhauled kick up rudder with all new parts, up graded the rear traveler to newer style, righting line and on and on...... to much to list but I think I have a brand new boat and plan on years of trouble free sailing . Some mentioned my home made beach wheels which work great and I made them for about $40 , I will post more on those when I get a chance to take some pictures. Im in the middle of building a sail and boom box for my trailer hope to finish this weekend . Im looking to put a jib on it so it will tack easier thats why Im looking for the dementions of the turbo 14 jib. Im hoping someone knows where I can find out
