After three regattas the Wave Class National Series
is shaping up to be a tight one. After the Tradewinds Regatta in January at
Key Largo, Florida and the East Coast Championships in June at Sandy Hook, Barb
Short had a one point overall lead over Rick White and a two point lead over
Dan Kulkoski.
In August the North Coast Championships at Put-in-Bay, Ohio was led by Rick
White, taking a 5-point lead over Barb Short. Kulkoski did not make the event
and slipped to 4th place in a tie with Stan Woodruff.
There are still several more events for the year where a lot of points can be
made up. The Wave Class North Americans will take place October 14-16 at Pensacola
Beach, where a large showing of boats is expected. That will be followed by
the Wave Class Nationals Dec 1-4 in Key Largo. Both the North Americans and
the National count as two races.., so, missing one can cost a loss of some big
points.
Points are accumulated by how many boats you beat at each event. The larger
the event, the more points you can accumulate.
