My son was 4 and just able to swim. We used sailing on the 6.0 as the reward helping motivate him to learn to swim. I've been using sailing terms with him since the beginning. The grocery store and bike riding have been great place/activities to practic with the terminolgy; ready about, helms a-lee, recenlty overlap and I need room.
