This may be a tad weird, but has anyone ever thought of using a trampoline tramp for a replacement tramp? They seem to come in a lot of different sizes and after watching a bunch of kids bouncing on them for hours at a family get toegther it got me thinking ... and they appear to be (after a cursory search on the net) to be about half the price ... just a thought ... (it was hot, it was an uncle's birthday and I was bored outta of my mind)

Yeah, but coming down off a big wave might bounce you off the boat.

But seriously...it's the same poly mesh. The material is cheap but it's all the sewing and grommet installation that costs so much. If you want the UV stable thread, you're looking at about $40 just in thread too.

The tarp they use on the top of dumptrucks is the same stuff. Truck shops that do the canvas-type stuff on the tops may have good material at a reasonable price.

The stitching and grommets like Jake said will be the money...

IF you folks would take a look at the new A-class tramps, you will see how weight- and expense- have gone DOWN. Grommets are much rarer now, just fold and sew each edge to hold a rod or hard tube. There is less stress on the fabric, with sealed-edge holes for the lines going to fewer hard points on the hulls. This mesh fabric is really tough stuff nowadays.

Argh!!! About your wife indeed!!! Another great line from this forum.

Anyway .. the one I looked at was sewn as well as my climbing harnesses are. D-rings and strapping to the tramp material about every 12 inches. I don't know if they use Tenara thread or not, but the tramps (the jumping thingee!) are outdoors all the time so they must have some resistance to water and sun ... don't know about the longevity ...

If you have a old tramp that the sun has worn the coating off of it, give it a coating of plastidip. http://www.plastidip.com/consumer/products.html

I have an old beach beater H16 that I did this on last year. It's held up great and giving it new life. It comes in a spray or liquid, but you would need to thin liquid version and brush it on cause it is intended for dripping tools to create rubber handles. The liquid goes on thicker but the spray will go on more even.
