I wanted to ask a question of sailors who frequent this site. We want to charter a sailboat (most likely a larger monohull) out of the keys for a Boy Scout Venture Crew (mostly 15-17 year old boys). There will be at least 10 boys and three adults. Three years ago we chartered the Dream Catcher out of Key West (see link below).

Before we chartered this boat again, the Venture Crew wanted me to ask other sailors if they had any other suggestions. Has anyone had a great experience chartering a boat (plus its captain) for a week’s long excursion?

Thank you,

Bob Klein

Skipjacks and other sharpie types are indigenous American work boats. As such they have a rich history and are ideally suited to coastal waters. Particularly the Florida Keys.

see also: "The Sharpie Book", Ruell Parker. I belive he built the "danger" boats.
