Having one in trap and the other on the lee hull (very wet) should not alter the forces too much.

It all depends greatly on seastate. If the water is flat, the load varies much less and your idea should work fine.

I have been sailing 2up on several occasions, but that does not guarantee that it will work fine the next time, or for you <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

If you are each only 100lbs. I see no reason why it wouldn't be as fast as a single 200 lb. crew.

There are 2.2 pounds per kilogram so 160 kilograms is 352 pounds. That is a lot of weight on an A cat. I have sailed with my wife on my Boyer Mark IV with a total of about 300 pounds and flew the hull without trapezing. I did not like how much flex I was seeing in the leward hulls in front of the main beam going upwind in a small chop so I stayed off the trapeze. At 330 pounds you are twice the weight of the boat - that would be like putting 810 pounds on a Hobie 18 except that almost all that weight difference between the boats went into the hulls and rigging of the Hobie so that it could take the abuse. I think that A cats are built to take very little abuse, if any. SO, how important is it to keep it in one piece and how much insurance do you have?

It sounds like you have an older A-Class with the AL mast. These boats weighed around 200 lbs. The newer boats are 165 lbs and the general recommendation is not to exceed 275 lbs total crew weight. Keep in mind that A-Class are high performance singlehanded racing sailboats. The low weight is due to everything being designed and specified for a single sailor. It's not really the platform that is limited but the standing rigging. I would not recommend sailing with 160 kg of crew weight except in light air conditions.

Use the right tool for the job. Get a doublehanded boat if the majority of your sailing will be with two people.
