Wonder if Joyon (currently aboard IDEC en route to shattering Ellen's 72 day record) will do a Moitessier and go for another lap! Mike. PS Anyone getting this DVD MUST remember to check out the Special Features section...there is a treasure trove of interviews with the other surviving racers and people involved...easily as intriguing as the main movie! Mike.

Posts: 124 offshore | Interesting. A friend of mine just gave me the book "A voyage for Madmen" about that race. He must've known something I didn't...like the release of the movie. Guess I will have to pick it up and read it now!

Dermot drives rib - Jeffrey Dean Morgan gets credit for rescueing girls - Dermot's wife says "You look scared" <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I was upset they didn't even show the club in the backgroud. Where did the whole film crew hang out while shooting it?

Quite a remarkable story. DEEPWATERIt's available on NetFlix I remember the story at the time, read a book and saw a movie or documentry on TV recently. It is very easy to get sucked in to a project like this. I sailed with Robin Knox Johnston on the cat "British Airways 1" in 1986 and we set a Round Ireland Record. There was a much hyped Round Europe Race in 1987 for Multihulls. One of the stop-overs was Dun Laoghaire, near Dublin, Ireland. We wanted an Irish boat in the race. We got a quote from Robin for chartering the cat - price of a new mainsail etc. We were so sure that some Irish company would be thrilled to sponsor an Irish entry. We would have walked from our jobs to take on this project - the cat was almost booked - BUT none of the big companies were interested. Had to phone Robin and say sorry "It's not happening". It was actually a huge relief when the pressure was gone.

I was upset they didn't even show the club in the backgroud. Where did the whole film crew hang out while shooting it? They were based in a football club a few miles away from our Club. The close up scenes were filmed right off our beach, even though they were meant to be in the middle of the lake. Everyone moved into the Club site, sound trucks, lighting etc. They were in for nearly 2 weeks just to film those scenes. When they finally left the Club, I wanted to put notices on the back of the toilet doors "Hilary Swank (or Lisa Kudrow) sat here"
