Posts: 943 East Gippsland, Australia | That's excellent - 2nd over the line. Must have been a horizon job after the handicaps were applied!
And 4 mosquitoes at Mannering Park! This is the best kind of publicity the class can get.

Posts: 265 Sydney AUST | David had a camera there I'll see if he can put some up. Yeah they actually separated us from the open cats in the results on the day. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> It was a great day a few young kids were interested.

They do the same stuff to us also, the Hobies will often change what course they are going to sail while on the water pre-race to avoid yardstick racing against the Mozzy. First thing you know about it is when you look back and see they are sailing a triangle rather then a loop. Seems there are very few Hobie sailors who can sail their boats to yardstick so they will do anything to avoid a direct comparison. Its good to sort out the divisions before you hit the water, after racing is to late as some clubs find a reason to divide the results up so the local heros can still win once its become apparent the Mozzys have dominated results. Posts: 943 East Gippsland, Australia | This kind of manipulation of the results is a sad reflection on the standard of club sailing these days - probably largely due to the tiny fleets sailing at most clubs. Did those other guys talk to Ben and try to understand why he was so much faster than them? I bet they didn't.
In a fleet of 4 or 5 boats someone has to be the "champion". Our club has no more than a dozen regular sailors (and another 20-30 irregulars) but the arguments and anguish over the "club champion" title is unbelievable.

Posts: 502 Port Noarlunga, SA, Australia | A few years back when I was racing Top Gun I turned up to race at a club I hadn't raced at for a long time. There were A's, Taipans, F18s, some other fast cats and my Mozzie and a Maricat 4.3. After I arrived they varied the sailing instructions so all boats with a yardstick 80 and lower were one devision, 81 and above another devision, with a seperate start, same course. So I was going to be racing the poor old Maricat, not much fun for either of us so I lowered my yardstick from 84 to 79.5 and raced with the fast cats and scored a win and a close second, in the two races, against some fast A and Taipan sailors, very satisfying to do well even when the goal post are being moved.
Its worth sorting this out before hand as my afternoons sailing could have been sailing the course on my own lapping the Maricat but instead I had to work hard and take some risks to hang on to fast cat fleet, much more satisfying sailing.
