I have recntly installed a pair of Clamcleat CL 257 auto release cleats on my Hydra Catamaran rudder arms.

These are fantastic Soon as you hit bottom the rudder pops
up and when you are through the shallows a simple click pull the rope and you are away again.
By far the easiest system I have seen or used
Where I sail is quite shallow so such a system is a must.
They are also easily adjustable to set the prssure required before the rudders pop.
By the way I dont work for clamcleat just raving abour
a really cool product.

Cheers

I fitted these to our A-Cat for the rudder line, just in case we ever forgot to lift the rudders before getting into the shallows. I never had to use them in anger but they worked well testing them on the trailer. My only concern would be durability if you repeatedly made them snap open. The surfaces taking the load in the release mechanism are small and made of plastic.

they work well. I used them on my previous boat- Ht and use them now on my blade. They snap open when you need them to and I have 2:1 purchase on my rudder hold downs. Makes a loud smack when it releases though and the cleat smacks the rear beam. You hear it and you expect the mast to come down next!

Similar in concept to Nacra's Pivmatic assembly. They do work...
