I can't remember stuff well enough to have to deal with deleted stuff. I found what was written by Macca a little distasteful at times and just plain argumentative and wrong at others, and the abusive private mail I received from "SUE" (I still think that name "Sue" should have been "Steve” from Hobie Australia) was actually quite funny, BUT I would defend their rights to post "to the death" (with the possible exceptions of postings of obscene and/or paedophile content)

My contibution to the thread (which was with good intentions) began with me questioning the F16 min weight particularly with reagrds to new boats hitting the water missing their target weight.

There were some very uneducated replies to what I had asked, but some well thought out and structured repies also (most through pm's). After becoming satisfied with the weight issue, my next concern was the potential overuse of exotics in the class.

Once again some very uneducated responses, threads deleted then locked...... no well thought out, structured replies until a recent pm by an experienced industry person. Some points I did not agree on and he was a little grey on himself, but it was enough for me to feel comfortable with where the rules are for now. Shame in a way that the thread was lost as moving through these issues in the right manner can be a real possitive.

Hope to be on an F16 soon...... Just got to sell my current boat.

TA doesn't like doing things in half measures so hence his direct questions. Sailed with and against him plenty of times and he is quite competitive. Would be a welcome addition. F16 class should be glad he is still interested despite the wranglings on this forum the past few months. So, can someone buy his ol' Capricorn!!!

With respect to weights I had a new experience today.

I had to get some welding done on a class 5 landyacht I'm rebuilding and the EU importer for VWM F16's helped me out.

I saw this new daggerboard design there and I really liked the new grey colouring, goes really well with the white hulls. He then asked if I wanted to see something impressive. Sure ! I said.

So he took this high aspect daggerboard (aspect ratio of 4 and less then 1.80 kg overall weight) and clamped it to low laying workbench, then he said ;"go stand on the very tip and jump up and down". Now I'm 94 kg myself (207 lbs), that is excluding my shoes and cloths. I did but felt not secure enough to really give it a go. Then he himself showed me what I was supposed to do and I could see his 100 kg frame bounce up and down by more then 6 inches on the very tip of the board. I didn't hear any noises coming of the board, it just took this punishment in its stride.

Afterwards I held the daggerboard and it is indeed ludicrously light, straight and in one piece. I felt like I was holding a milkcarton in my hand.

He is thinking about making a test setup for potential buyers so they can do this test themselves.

I know the daggerboards can see some very high loading while sailing, but this is still a very impressive test. It would require a fully powered F16 (150 on traps) and a 2G corner to even match this loading.
