Posts: 135 Bendigo, Victoria, Australia | G.J. and the Bear were there and the new owner of Touch n Go. I was there with the Flying Ant "Envy" and the boys. Didn't take Now What? due to the weed at Oz Day putting me off a bit and I wanted to work on the Ant and teach the boys some more. Got the spinnaker on the Ant operational before I went.
No racing Friday due to No Wind. Went for a float on the Ant.
Saturday a light breeze was blowing as we headed out to the start for the morning race. It dropped out and the race was posponed. Most headed back to the beach. When most were back on the beach the breeze picked up a little. The Bear and Touch n Go stayed out and did some tuning.
We headed out for another go at starting and the breeze dropped out again so we were all sent back to the beach. Soon as everyone was back the breeze came back. I stayed out and sailed in the light breeze with the spinnaker on the Ant before coming back in for lunch.
Just after I got back in the wind picked up to 15 knots + and 2 afternoon races were held. G.J. may have to fill you in on the racing.
The weed was reaallly bad <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> and a lot of people left on the Saturday after the first and second races.
Sunday the regatta was offically declared null and void and restitution offered.
Yarrawonga members said that work is scheduled for the lake over the winter period where they hope to get rid of most of the weed. Here's hoping they do for their clubs sake.
I'm sure my legs will straighten again after crewing on the Ant for the weekend. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Posts: 943 East Gippsland, Australia | Now we really NEED to see a picture of you crewing in the Ant !!!
Getting rid of the weed sounds like an interesting problem. How can it be done? Mechanical (drag a chain or cable down the lake between a bulldozer on each side)? Chemical? Predator (a million of those Galapagos lizards to eat the weed)?

Posts: 135 Bendigo, Victoria, Australia | Exactly Tim,
That's why there isn't a picture of a gybe. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Tangled up in vang, spinaker sheets, jib sheets, centreboard, spinaker sock etc. Not a pretty sight. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> Looked a bit like a spider trying to get out of a bowl of spagetti that he'd just found himself in the middle of.
Didn't get any photos of me sailing the ant solo and hiking out. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
