What do you have to do to be able to launch at Heckscher? Do you need a permit and can you launch off the beach? Up to now I have been doing mostly North shore sailing.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Larry

Hi,
Yah, sandy beach. No permit, just Empire pass or pay at the gate ($6 or $8).
See the details on the location pages at licsa.org
This time of year you will see around 4 or 5 cats on a decent SW wind day.

Most every day is a decent SW day at hecksher, with winds at least 12mph after noon.
The weed on rudders has been known to make grown men cry. It comes and goes, and was not bad last week.
Watch your speed in the park, our it will cost you an extra 50 bucks. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
Send me email and we can meet up.

Thanks. I am new to cats. I have sailed a lot in the past and I was down in Myrtle Beach and rented a Getaway with my son. We loved it so much we rented it a couple of more times and now I am looking into getting a used Hobie 16. So I am doing my research now, finding out what I need to look for on a used boat and where is the best place to sail it. I have an old sunfish I have been teaching my son on and used it mostly on the north shore but the wind isn't as nice as the south shore where I grew up.

Unless I get real lucky the only time I will be down at Heckscher this year will be with the sunfish.

Thanks for the help.

Larry

Thanks

Go to this site. http://www.thebeachcats.com/classifieds/showcat.php/cat/1/page/1 If you put in your zip code it will tell you how far you are from the boat that you are looking at. There is a P16 on page 2 with blue decks. It looks like it is in decent shape but I'd always recommend seeing firsthand. Greg
