Hey, Kirt:
Build that fleet! You probably know about the US A-class catamaran association and their web site (
www.usaca.info). They list several regattas in the South-Central USA that are convenient to you in Arkansas. The best deal for you is that the USACA is holding the 2003 A-class cat nationals on Lake Ponchartrain north of New Orleans in October. I think that Bob Hodges, who is very active in the USACA group, will be organizing it. Bob may also be organizing the New Orleans Jazzfest Regatta in May (Bob?). The Gulfport, FL regatta is coming up weekend after next, as Gordie says in another post, but that is a bit of a drive for you. Nonetheless, we'd love to see you and your fleet there. The USACA site also says "Mid-March Performance Midwinter's in Pensacola Florida." They usually have other-than-Performance boats show up. Also, the Hobie mid-winters are also in Pensacola 28-30 March, and if a bunch of us show up they may give us a class. We now have six boats at the Rudder Club in Jacksonville, and have club races roughly every other weekend. I met you at Spring Fever when you brought your T4.9 (Bob Hodges was there last year, too), and several of us will probably go to Lake Hartwell again this year, so that's another opportunity.
Send your regatta announcement to Bob Webbon (
[email protected]), who is currently the USACA president. If he isn't the webmaster, he will know who to send the notice to so it can be posted. There is a growing "southern circuit" for the A-class cats, and a regatta in Arkansas might be just the thing.
How many A-class cat sailors does it take to screw in a light bulb? Only one (single-handed boat), but he has an ultra-light carbon-fiber light bulb, it goes in faster than any other light bulb, and he says "YAHOOOO!" while he's doing it.
