I was referring to the Remington 700, US army's weapon of choice for distant target termination since the late'60s.
I really like waterbugs choices too, just outta my price range.

Sorry to hear it. Why can't they ever take that 5 year old main that you've been meaning to replace for about 2 years.
I think a sail is equivilent to a man's horse. Here in MO we still hang horse thieves. So if you find someone dangling from a palm tree with two black eyes down there you know what happened.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Yes, scatter guns and "spray and pray" could damage the sail. That's a no-no.
You guys can keep the CQB crap. I'm staying a safe distance away.... like 2000 meters. That way no one can shoot back...

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I figured I might as well chronicle my insurance experience with Progressive on the claim for the sail...so here goes...I have been really impressed with Progressive Insurance to date although I have not had a claim. I like to keep notes on these sort of things so I figured I might as well share.
This morning at about 10:15am I called the national Progressive claim number and got to a rep about 20 seconds after entering my policy number. I gave her some details about the incident but I left the police report number in my car...said I would have to get that back to them (she said "no problem"). Everything was entered and she said a claim person would contact me within two hours.
I got back to my desk at 11am after a meeting and my wife had sent me an email that the local claim person had already called the house after trying my work number and my cell phone number (I was in a meeting and my PDA phone is with our IT department for some data problem). She said he wanted to know how much to write the check for....
so far so good...I don't have a replacement quote yet so it looks like I'm going to be the delay in the process at this point. I called the guy back but got a voicemail...I'll wait to leave him a message until I have my cell phone back this afternoon.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Called and left message for the local claims guy "Dennis" this afternoon at 1:15p and left my cell number (now that I have my phone back). I probably don't have the info he needs but wanted to check on what information I need to provide him so I can get it all to him at once.
(I'm leaving last names out of this board for protection of the innocent!).

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Dennis calls me back at 2:15pm...I just need to send him the invoice/estimate for replacement and a copy of the police report. I explained that I purchased this sail at a time when the exchange rate was low and with a group of five sailors so we could share a combined / reduced shipping expense. I was concerned that because the exchange rate today isn't as favorable and that the shipping may not be able to be shared like was done originally - it may cost a bit more to actually replace it. He explained that they don't normally consider shipping expenses but that they would see what was possible once all the numbers were on the table. Nice guy - prompt responses. I'm pleased thus far.
I am sure that when I first purchased the policy for my F18 (which was then transferred to the A-cat) that it was a "replacement value" policy and not an "agreed value" policy. Dennis said it was an agreed value policy...which means they cover me for what I paid for the sail and not what it costs me to replace it. It could be a difference when dealing with the whole boat vs. a small part of the boat or something...I'll figure out what's up with that soon enough when I have a chance later to research my policy details.
