I'm asking some of the Nacra owners to do a favor....could one of you ( some actually) measure your mast and give me the total length as well as the main shroud attachment point lengths......the diamond wire attachment points would help as well.

I'm looking to re outfit a Trac 16 and can not find an original mast.....

Anyone who has a mast around 26 -27 ft tall with diamond wires could help out.

I appreciate the help

James-
Why do you want a mast with diamond wires? The only close masts from Nacras would be the 5.0 (perfect fit likely) or 5.2 (a little longer, more common, fitted for boom while 5.0 is boomless). Prindle 16's, Hobie 16's (don't get a comp tip IMO), G-cat 5.0's should all be close to the right length but will be without diamonds. I thought I remembered the Trac 16 w/o diamonds?? I have seen an old (abandoned?) one at Lake Lanier in GA long ago, might check-

Good luck!

I have a H17-SE, and the mast is 27'. No diamond wires though. It has a ball-&-socket joint at the attachment to the forward crossbar.

stop looking for oranges. I've found you an apple for your apple.

dunno where you are, but there's an old trac 16 (in nice shape, actually) been sitting on a trailer in the yard at Branford Landing (branford CT) for a few years now. hasn't moved an inch that I've seen. If I pass through there this weekend I'll stop and measure the mast for you. to my recollection, it does have diamond wires.

My Nacra 5.7 has a 29'2"mast (exclusing the mast base and the mast head.

The diamond wires start at 18" from the base, there are 108" to the spreaders and 108" from the spreaders to the top end of the diamond wires

The shroud are located at 21'2" (20" above the top end diamond wires)

My suggestion is the following:

If you have the mast base, simply order the proper length of extruson for your sail and find a mast head that fits. Most mast repair shop can order the anodize mast extrusion of the proper lenght and they could even build one for you.

Charles Leblanc [color:blue] Nacra 5.7 #123

If you're close to Lake Lanier.....I would give you a finders fee to find a mast (original). Also if the rudders are original...I would be greatly interested.

Charles,

I've tried that.....Rigright...can't even find the extrusion......They don't know where it was even made at.....I'm tired of waiting on them to get back to me....so I'll go with a used mast.....original or not.
But I appreciate the suggestion.

there are 3 Trac 16's at my club in Columbia SC, and a very nice 16 for sale(1500) at Western Carolina Sail Club in Anderson SC, on Lake Hartwell. Contact aclub member about the boat for sale, I think the webaddress is www.wcsc.org, or . com
Hope this helps, BTW;\
we are having a long distance race around Lake Murray on Sept. 21st. Check out our local sail clubs website for more info.

I guess I should let you all know a little about my story.

I bought this cat with a broken mast...I've owned it about 3 weeks. I have exhausted all avenues (other than the few people here) on finding an original mast or extrusion.

The cat is not in the best of shape...it has been abused. I got the cat for a steal. I thought I would be able to find the extrusion.....I figured a complete mast to be impossible to find.

This cat is a 1987 Trac 16 which was boomless. It had diamond wires. ( I have the broken mast)

The mast sits on a ball.....the mast base is a female socket. Not captive....wish it was.

All the hardware is Harken and seems to be in pretty good shape. The main looks older.......but seems ok.....the jib is brand new. The main halyard is new.

It has some blisters near the aft edge of the left hull. Both rudders have been ground off from the road. The hinges for the tiller bar are deteriorated (rubber hinges ....real strange) I'm making delrin hinges now for the tiller bar. ( I build automated machines for a living)

I would like to make it look good again.....( I'm just that way) It would be great to have something different.
Dave,
Thanks for the info...but I really don't want to buy a whole cat....I greatly inter3ested in fixing the one I got. But what you said is very inspirational. I'm actually in Greenville, SC ....so I'm looking forward to seeing the others locally.

Thanks for the info anyway.

So is it possible to find a stock extrusion that would fit H16 mast ends? Any sources for such? I have two bowed masts and have plenty of hardware but no straight stick.

Thanks,

The new Nacra 500 series and Inters use rubber hinges
for the tiller.
You might see if it is the same size first. I payed about
7 bucks for one.

My Nacra 5.2 mast is 28' 0.5" overall (not including the castings). Diamondwires (spreaders are not raked) start 16" from the base and finish at 18' 8.5" from the base. Main eyelette for trap and stay attachement is 8' from the top of the mast.
