Posts: 27 Buzzard Island | Hi Mary! I've been away from Catsailor.com for a while, but I never let my subscription to the paper edition run out . . . The new forum looks great! With the regatta season about to crank up, we've been upgrading our club web site to give our members more "ownership" over our online presence . . . Catsailor.com's forums are our main inspiration! To finally get around to answering your question . . . Newsreader programs like NetNewsWire use RSS feeds, a specially-formatted version of the web pages, to let the user check the news quickly from his or her favorite forums and weblogs. I'm pretty sure UBB.threads supports an RSS feed; it may just not be turned on for the Cat Sailor. It's kind of a geek thing, but I find it real handy.

Posts: 27 Buzzard Island | Hi Damon! Thanks! That is just too strange--I had never heard of your site, and then my buddy sent me a link to it just this morning! Kosmik! By the way, great site! The feed works great! Here's a screenshot: | | | Re: RSS Feed

Posts: 5,558 Key Largo, FL & Put-in-Bay, OH... | Gary, I will have Rick check it out this week. This is his last of four days of being the PRO for the International Sunfish Masters Championship at the Upper Keys Sailing Club (right down the road from us). I did not want to tax him with anything mentally challenging, because he has been under enough stress running races for 70 boats in light air with sometimes 60-degree wind shifts. For some reason, we are having August conditions here in the Keys in March. | | | Re: RSS Feed

Posts: 27 Buzzard Island | Hi Damon, Newsreader programs are cool to me because they run without web browsers, display only the content I want to see, and ignore any advertising or slow-loading Flash or Java stuff, all in one handy interface. In my earlier post, that's a screen from the Macintosh app NetNewsWire. Some newsreader apps for Windows are Radio Userland, News is Free, and Feedreader. I guess I've been out of the beachcat loop for a while--Kudos again on your site! By the way, in your photo gallery that's my headless body holding the boom from the remains of that Inter 20 on our club ramp. What a tragic day! What you can't see is the rime of ice on the shattered hulls, and the shredded mylar bound by the snarl of rigging underneath the boat. Here on Cross Lake, the wind seems to be either Force 0-1 or Force 4-5! | | |
