The owner lists this information.
Quote
450$
Boat is ready to sail
Not sure what year it is
no soft spots on decks, but starboard deck has a surface crack but doesn't leak
Hulls have been patched in a couple places
Good sail and all rigging
Rudders and tiller mechanism are fine
Very nice trailer, tires are up
Unique system for parking on dock has rollers to make launch and recovery a breeze for one person.

Anyone have any comments? Guesses on age? I will post some additional replies with additional pictures. The boat is not very close so I would like to have an idea of some things before I drive out there.

Looks like it might need a tramp and if your going to race it in any Hobie events it will need a comptip.

Well it mainly comes down to what your using it for because i think for racing it doesn't sound to good because you might need a new tramp, sails, comp tip, and many other bits. It might be worth finding a more expensive boat because in the long run you might be paying a heap less. The other thing is if its just to learn on it might be a good investment because well if you stuff it who cares and when you get good you can get a better one and give that one to the kids. Just my thought.

Thanks guys -

I also have a line on a 400$ h16 with trailor - everything great except tramp which is fair and it has bad hulls. I have been searching around on the net but have yet to get an idea of how much replacement hulls cost. I imagine I will need to just fork out more money initially and save headaches.

$450 sounds like a good deal, the tramp is probably ok as the hiking straps usually rot and break first. most of the boats in our club fleet are fixer uppers and most are illegal. we still have a ball racing, and a couple of these guys are very competitive at the district level. anyway i kept my 14t for singlehanding and hope i can get my daughters to take it over. its a great boat, especially if youre light.

I am guessing 260lbs is not light...

At 260 lbs. I would lean twords a 16. But don't get the one with bad hulls. Keep looking, they are all over in Texas. 1984-1987 were good years. You might pay a couple hundred more but it will be worth it.

cheers
Bill

our guy who is tall and weighs about 240 singlehands a 16, and he can right it himself. my friend tena and i weigh about 270 together and we had some great times on the 14, so you could do it, but the 16 is way more versatile and i think will be a funner ride for you.

Thanks guys, we'll see what happens. I am trying to find a ride that I can single hand that my wife will let me buy. She has this hangup about paying off debt and getting a 20% down payment and stuff like that before investing in toys.

I know if I buy an old boat I'll spend more money on it (I have done my share of old cars and motorcycles) but she'll have no choice once I (we!) own it.
