I don't think it matters whether your class is a member. You still have to be a member as an individual in order to vote. And if your class is a member, I think the class gets a vote, too.

B LEVEL Sailor Athletes shall have: ... Placed in the top one third of... the National or North American Sailing Championship of a US SAILING member class within the last ten years...

I'd qualify except that my class did not renew its US Sailing membership. While I'd like to claim Sailor Athlete status, I'm not inclined to pay $100 (the cost of class membership) for the privilege.

There is one day left to vote in the 2009 SAC Election. The Council is very pleased to present a strong and diverse slate of nominees for election to the Council including Liz Baylis, Bob Billingham, Matt Bounds, Andrew Campbell, Molly Carapiet, Andrew Cole, Kimberly Couranz, Carol Cronin, Rick Doerr, Albert Foster, Amy Gross-Kehoe, Sandy Grosvenor, Liz Hall, William Jeffers, Suzy Leech, Margaret Podlich, Dawn Riley, Austin Sperry, Hank Stuart and John Williams.

“Sailor Athletes voting for this group of candidates will get to select from a list of names active across a broad range of different aspects of our sport,” said Council Chairman Ned Jones. “One of our goals was increase the diversity of SAC by adding Council members with offshore and non-Olympic one-design experience as well as coaching and judging experience. This crop of candidates addresses those goals nicely.”

One hundred thirty (130) sailor athletes have already cast votes for the five open slots on the Council. If you are one of the 350+ that has not voted yet, please do so TODAY by going to www.USSAILING.org/sac/referendum.

Elections for US SAILING’s Sailor Athlete Council have recently concluded and six sailors have been elected to the Council. The new Council members are Andrew Campbell, Liz Hall, Dawn Riley, Carol Cronin, Amy Gross-Kehoe and Liz Baylis.

On behalf of US SAILING and the Sailor Athlete Council, I would thank you for being a nominee to the Council. Although you were not elected, we hope that you will continue to contribute as a registered sailor athlete.
