A friend told me to avoid Galveston Bay. He named everything from micro organisms to floating pollution. What are the conditions of the bay??? Is it really that contaminated?

The last time I sailed in the bay was 1974 on my Tornado. I haven't been back sailing since. I am thinking about relocating to the area. Presently I have my boat on the trailer with the mast up fully assembled except for sails. its about a 100 yards away from the water. The problem is finding something similar on the bay. I went down there and talked to a couple of people but no one knew of a marina or boatyard for small boats. My boat takes about three hours to assemble and about 2 hours to take down so I really need something similar to what I have here.

I'm glad to hear you're not dead yet...I was reading about the pollution in the bay on the net and apparently in some places its almost toxic and others its quite nice. I was thinking about Kemah but have further investigation to do.

Do you know of a place where you can leave a cat on the trailer with access to the water in close proximity. My cat has a 12' beam so a marina is probably my best bet. The two marinas I went to wanted to put it in the water but its too light for that.

Try Gulf Coast at 281-334-5505. There are 2 mast up locations one on Clear Lake and one on the Bay. If you locate on Clear Lake you can sail the Wed Nights

What is the shark situation in the bay? I live in Dallas and hear about attacks in Fla. but never in Galveston Bay.

The only sharks I know about in the Bay are small, 2-5 feet. I have never heard of a shark attack in Galveston bay.

We see alot of dolphins and an occasional turtle in the bay but I think the sharks are rather small. On the coast I have seen sharks. What to look out for are jelly fish if you are in the water or walking on the beach.

Mark

Hello Kirt-

What a difference a year can make. Last year when you were here it was 106-111F and every lake was down from 8-22ft. Now its 75F, raining for the past 5 days [4.8" in my rain guage] and most of the lakes are full or almost. The real estate market has slowed some... I wish I had some stories to tell you about the 22 but I don't. I injured my knee the first day I took it out in May and was in rehab until mid August. I rode in a bike rally and it swole up the size of a pro football. So I really can't get on the wire with it acting up...maybe next year. Todays winds are 15-25 with gusts over 30 according to the weatherman. I bought a set of High Wind sails [275approx.] from Sabre sails that would really turn the 22 loose. If you are still looking for a place to leave your boats in dry storage with the mast up I have the 22 [fully assembled] in a great spot. I literally can drive it to the water in about 5 minutes max. Theres a concrete ramp with grass beach next to it. All this for about $50 per month. Its secure as well with a tall fence and security gate. Let me know when you are coming!

fair winds,
Thom-
Hoping to actually make the move by year end and definitely interested in the spot. That's about what I pay now here. Hopefully will have contracts signed by end of next month if it doesn't all just implode!!
So sorry to hear about your knee! In my case it's my back- That's one reason I got into the lighter boats! So I take it you still have the 22? Are you still planning/trying to sell it and keep the 20 or sell the 20 or keep both?
If you're gone before I get ready to need an agent I'll at least want you to give me some names!

I tried to sell the 22 for months with only one guy actually handing me a check that didn't bounce. After three payments [=over50% of what I have in it] his phone was disconnected and he had moved to a new address. I had no idea where he had gone to until his mother called and said he was living with her and his company had laid him off. He was too proud to tell me what had happened. I verified what happened and gave him his money back. Other than that I have had a couple of offers for less than half what I have in it. [thats a 2001 model with 25 minutes sailing time total with no scratches and never being capsized] So much for resale value...at this rate I would l have to pay someone to take it away!!! Well its paid for and there's always next year and high wind sails mean that its manageable in heavy air country...The 20 is about 1/4 finished and when it's done I will probably keep it as well.

Keep me up to speed as to your plans because I can work the entire state. My plans to move are on hold as well because of negoitation details...
If Carl thinks a year makes a difference...
How 'bout 20 or so? The last time I saw you, you were driving that Prindle 16 around Canyon Lake.
