Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | G'day it's great to see a website has been setup for Stingrays. If you know of one or have one consider entering it in the boat register. Heres the link www.stingraycatamaran.comregards

Posts: 586 Hobart, Tasmania, Oz. | That would be the same "dope" that took a heap of money for a heap of boats then skipped out of town... bloody crook!!!
would have been a great boat if they didnt set the main beam so low. the updated molds had the main beam on top of the deck and used a bridal foil like nacra between the bows.

Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | Thanks for the link. it doesnt say the weight there, do you know if they were trying to make it heavy like an F18? I added weight with bulkheads in my Cherry mold boat to make it rigid like an F18 after the hulls collapsed but it ruined it as a Stingray. regards

Posts: 1,449 | Jeff, My understanding is that there were only one or two made to be sent to Europe. They were not for the Australian market as they would not be class legal and no point splitting the class again. Possibly lessons learnt from the intro of big rig back in the 80s. I visited the factory while they were being made. The guy building them was really passionate about his boats. My understanding is that the company went belly up. It is a damn shame. The changes made would have made it an even better boat. It's good to see that the Stingray has a web site to help showcase the class.
BTW:- the guy who had the Cherry Stingray moulds also had Cherry's Cobra moulds. I wonder if the Cobra guys know where they are.
Regards, Phill

I know that the voices in my head aint real, but they have some pretty good ideas. There is no such thing as a quick fix and I've never had free lunch!

The name of the cat in that PFD file "Convicts Revenge" sound very familiar, I am pretty sure there is one at my club with that name (although it did look slightly abandoned). I will take a look next time I'm there. | | | Re: Stingrays finally have a website

Posts: 107 Melbourne, Australia | I just found this thread! Thanks for Posting Jeff!
FasterDamnit - Fubar is actually a cobra!
I was just sent the 'Convicts Revenge' article today. It is funny the article says "It took 5 people to come up with a copy of the tornado" (or similar)... what it doesn't mention is it was designed at the same time as the Torny - The 60's
Interesting moving the beams to the decks - The stingray beams are so small (by todays standards) that I feel they NEED to be glassed in to the hull for rigidity. The review mentions a lot of twist!
Either way they go like S%&# off a shovel and handle a kite really well - Quite similar to an F16 (slightly heavier, but bigger kite and longer)
Mitch
PS any good photos will make it to the website!
