I'm thinking about building a sail box. Anyone have any suggestions or design ideas/plans?

Go to www.thebeachcats.com. I have some information posted there. There may be another one as well. You can also find some plans and information via the yahoo beachcats group.

Hey nesdog,
I checked out TheBeachcats.com and was able to find your post.
Thanks for the info.I also found a plan for a sail tube which looked like a good idea as well. I was wondering how well your sail box is holding up?

Some people are having trouble finding the instructions for building your own cat box (sail box) on TheBeachcats.com, here are direct links.
Seldon's article on building a plywood catbox.

Jack Hoying's instructions for building your own trailer and pvc storage tube.

The sail box is holding up well. I had covered it in primer and paint and I try not to back it completely under water! I put astro turf inside to make it easier to slide items in.

When the boat is stored, I have a tarp covering it, so that helps to keep the box underneath in decent shape.

Keep in mind that I'm in Socal so we don't have terribly difficult weather to deal with. I opted for the box over Jack's tube because I wanted a bit extra space. I have enough room for my gear, plus a chair or camping stuff if needed. I don't recall if Jack's version was wide enough to put the rudder assembly in which is something I do as I don't trailer with them on.

I see cat boxes in all shapes and sizes, tubes and boxes, etc. so just use whatever works for you.
