I mean really, before it, the N6.0 was king.

Alledgedly, a new model is coming out.

Those of you with an I20, is the writing on the wall?

I only ask, 'cause I know where a nice one near me in WI is to buy.

Your thoughts?

The new 20 footer that is coming out of Nacra will not compete with the current N20. It is a completely different beast, more beam, curved boards, etc. I'd be really suprised if we ever see one in the states. Look for them in Europe competing for line honors in Texel and other big distance races.

They are being offered for sale in Oz.

anything with a beam that wide is going to be more of a PITA than it's worth.

OK. I'm not trying to start a controvery here.
So, US I20 sailors (I still call it an I20, 'cause it was called that when it first came out, and there were still some N6.0's, like mine around)
do you think the class still has a few more good years?

In asking, I'm hoping so, it is damn good all around boat.
NOt the best reacher without the chute up, but it makes up for it elsewhere.

The 20 is a great boat and still an extremely viable class. Yes, I did sell mine to go F-18, but there were other reasons for that move. There are great regattas around that traditioanlly have large I-20 fleets, Tradewinds, Performance Nationals, and Spring Fever to name a couple. What boats are around in your area? There are great 20 fleets around the country. There are a bunch in the Pensacola area, the Chesepeak has a bunch, not sure about other areas. If there are no other active 20's in your area and your looking for one-design racing, it may not be your best choice. The 20 is also an awesome distance racer.

I agree with Karl, the N20 is an excellent boat. There's a great fleet around where I live, and we have a great time both on and off the race course. I love the boat and will be racing it for a long time.

There IS a nice fleet where I live now, with the CRAW sailors, in Wisconsin. If I get one however, someone loses a half decent crew, and I'm looking for a decent crew.

Trey, were you at North Americans in Oct. in Ft. Walton Beach?

PS- Anyone want a great crew, that can also skipper, and pay his own way on the Cuba Run 2010? I think I may know someone like that.

But you will have added another active boat to the fleet. That is always a good thing!

there is no substitute/alternative for the N20 when it comes to the big boys. there are a few of us that are over 200 lbs out there. i'm not getting any smaller so i need a boat that is built for me. the N20 can compete when the humans on board are 400+lbs. as much as i envy the 160 pounders (while sailing) i'll never be that small. The N20 is a MAN'S boat. its competes with any boat in any class. it has a lot of leg left in it since it is so fast and able to handle the hefties. The only thing holding the N20 back is finding good crew. the owners lament that they can't find the crew necessary to be as competitive as they would like to be. its hard to find dedicated crew and it gets frustrating to start with neophytes with each race. when you get a team of two it's rare but you have an advantage that goes a long way.
In november 2010, the Cuba Run is taking off. can anyone think of a better ride than the N20? Personally i would appreciate the extra 2 feet over the F18 when crossing the big water in the gulf stream. the N20 is a stalwart veteran with years ahead of it. All you really have to do is get a ride on one. there is no smoother sailing boat than the N20. cheers

I am interested in this race to Cuba to crew or skipper.
I suspect that competent folks should team up to do it together and park one boat to get one safe, fun time per pair of grizzlies. Use the second boat as a back up.
I have a complete down to the screws refurbished/renewed Nacra 6NA that I could run but an exisiting long distance campaigner might like a pardner instead.
Certainly I could have got a decent I20 for the money now in my Nacra but it does not concern me that much. I am just having fun with it all and it's safer than racing motorcycles and just as much enjoyment.

Hambone,
why dont you and Todd team up and do the GT300 on that 6.0 of yours. He knows that boat like his own backside and has done the race on it more than a few times.
