I put together a photo album of all the pix I took on the Tybee 500 race in a bunch of thumbnails. Just click on the thumb to see the regular sized picture.

The clicked-on enlargements are too small!! Can I please get some backup support on my opinion? I'm just a wife and my opinion doesn't count with him. Maybe if enough people are willing to chime in on this, we can get him to take this seriously. Please start chiming.

This is a step forward, because at least he is now posting all his pictures. Now we need to let him know what size we want.

If you are going to make them clickable, you might as well make it worth while!
Here's a good size comparison to see the difference.

That's too big. I know that when people post pictures that big on the forum, it makes it necessary to toggle back and for all the rest of that thread to see whole pictures or read text. Very annoying. Don't worry, we will get this figured out. We're still on the low part of the learning curve for some things.

Mary,
It definetely depends on the situation. In the case of Rick's thumbnails page, the larger images opened in a new window, so 800 would be a great size. I could be wrong, but most people I know have their monitors set at 1024 pixel wide. (thank God for these big monitors). I agree that the photos in the forum should be limited to about 600 pixels wide.

We'll get it right eventually. It is a big step forward to get him to even post all his pictures and even think about doing thumbnail clickables. I don't know why he doesn't understand the importance of pictures and how much people crave them. As I said, he won't listen to me, so you guys all have to clamor and demand.

And, by the way, I have a pretty new monitor and it's a LOT bigger than my old one, and that picture you attached to your post is too big to fit on my screen when I toggle it all the way across.

Mary,
I would guess that your monitor is set to 800 x 600. Rick's photos probably look larger to you than someone with a larger screen size setting. As a "low tech" example, the first photo in the thumbnail page (the large version) measures 2 3/4" wide when I hold a ruler up to my screen. I'm sure it's bigger on yours, if you have the 800x600 setting. Either way, it's still hard to make out a face or any details.
You can check your computer by right clicking on our desktop and then on properties. Click on the settings tab and it'll tell you what the screen size is set to. It's easy to change to the next size (1024 x 768). When I switched, I first thought the fonts were a little too small, but after I got used to it, I'm very happy with it, and my eyes aren't all that great. Many webpages seem to be designed for the larger size and I think it even makes reading email easier since there is more text on the screen at one time. If you don't like that size, it only takes a couple seconds to change back to your old settings.
Can you tell the weather is not too swift in Ohio today? I wish I was out sailing for the first time since we were in Key Largo last January, but I'm sitting at the computer instead.
Jack

580 pixels wide seems to be the benchmark, its the most common size (IMO) and the best because it caters best to both screen resolutions that people use (800x600, 1024x760)

Its big enough to see detail, it loads quick, and most times you dont have to scroll all over the page to see all the pic.

Heres a pic I upsized to 580 pixels wide.

Mary,

The 800 pixel version that Jack linked to is actually the "original" picture that was uploaded.

Try this one
"600 pixel wide browsing version"
It's the version you see when you click on the thumbnails in the Tybee 500 Album.

It should fit on most 800x600 resolution monitors for width, even with the naviagation on the left. Then if you click the picture again you get the biggest version of the pic available. In some of the other albums the originals are up to 1280 pixels, that's not a good size for screen viewing, but it's nice for printing and for seeing details.

I like the 580 best. That looks perfect.

And in Rick's gallery, some of the ones farther down the page are 400, so they are a little under 7 inches wide. For the future I will suggest the 580 width. Thanks!

on my site in the photogallery, I use 640X480 as a standard size. It would be what I would consider a minimum resolution to see any kind of detail.

Unfortunately, the frames will make it a little tough to see the pictures on a computer with the resolution less than 1024 but you can drag the frame borders to make them smaller and get them out of the way.
