Well I hope it is a beam reach so we can just hang on tight and scream down the coast. David G-Force 21

Posts: 1,253 Columbia South Carolina, USA | Thanks for the encouraging words, it will be fun either way. I remember doing the "Sun Fun Dash" in 1992(?) when it was the same way. We beat into the wind 12 miles towards Murrels Inlet. Seems like it took 2 hours or so to get there, then we turned the corner and were home in 20 minutes. We stood on the rudder castings of my 5.2 and white knuckled it back home. I cant remeber going faster or being more scared on any boat I've sailed to date. Oh those were the days. Posts: 43 Austin, TX | Sounds strange to name your boat after one that sank... Otherwise its a cool name, and it is a very cool lettering job.

The rowing team for our university is very well supplied... they have a couple of brand new 8-man shells out at the lake. One of them is named "Canis Lupis" (our university is the Wolfpack). I thought the latin name sounded nice, almost intimidating. I had been thinking about what to name my boat... things like "this side up" and so forth interested me, but after finding them unoriginal, I was left with little options. Later I almost said screw it, and just wanted to put one of those shark's teeth images on each bow. But then, I put the latin and the shark together, typed into google "Latin for Shark" and the first thing that popped up was "Squalus." It sounded pretty cool, almost intimidating. Jake overlayed the image on a diagram of a N5.2 and I was instantly sold. The font is the same they use on the Porsche 911. I have to say that every time I've taken the boat out, I've got compliments on its looks, even a couple of powerboaters down in Wilmington found it attractive. So I'm going to temp fate and keep the name. | | | Re: Painting Gaphics/images on Sails
