Posts: 1,884 Detroit, MI | Seems really odd that wouldn't be decided in advance and placed into the NOR or SIs, of course I can't find either of those docs online. Were they really unsure of how many competitors they would get?
It's hard to fathom that wouldn't be decided at least before the boats hit the water to start the on-site qualifying, I must be missing something?
Mike People drop out at the last minute - or just never show up to registration. It's always been a shifting number, back to the days of provided boat Nationals. In fact, the event / rotation formal is virtually identical to the way provided boat Nationals were done. They even named "alternate qualifiers" at the first cut party in case someone dropped out for whatever reason. Also, if they have a "reduction in boats" (rare, but it does happen), they can adjust the number of qualifiers. Usually they put a minimum number of qualifiers in the NOR. It's just math. | | | Re: 2010 Hobie 16 Worlds in China

I am still surprised it would be THAT much of an unknown going into the qualifier (actually, by the morning of Day 1 of qualifying, this should be totally clear, barring boat breakage).
Mike You've been hanging out with those New England judges too much. Lighten up, Francis. We never knew who was going to make the first cut - they'd announce the results at the party, starting with first place and working down. The suspense was impressive. Only when they got to the actual last person qualified would they say, "And the last team to qualify for the round-robin is . . . " | | | Re: 2010 Hobie 16 Worlds in China

Only when they got to the actual last person qualified would they say, "And the last team to qualify for the round-robin is . . . " Fixed it for you... Actually, you're right. I've spent more time doing high-level non-Hobie events (than Hobie events) over the past few years. While these guys wouldn't get it, I do understand your logic (know your event), and it sounds like fun! Mike | | | Re: 2010 Hobie 16 Worlds in China - Wrap
