John Franta from the boats Bandale and Flyer is putting together a Multihull Regatta in San Carlos, Saturday, October 18, 2003.

These folks often cruise on Mexico's beautiful Sea of Cortez.

If anyone is interested let Don, who sails the 38 foot Trimaran, Ocean Quest, know and he'll get you the info.

Don can be contacted at: dosamigos@uswest.net or he posts on http://www.trailersailor.com/index2.html on the Sea of Cortez message board (also see http://www.cruisecortez.com/).

For those who haven't been down that way, it's south, across the Mexican border, and about six hours from Nogales, Arizona, which is a couple of hours south of Tucson, Arizona.

Speak Spanish or English, it doesn't matter for San Carlos is a very clean and generally quiet town, which is very adept for catering to tourists with hotels, restaurants and sports two marinas facilities, one of which has full services, for cruisers and weekend boaters.

You can bring your dive gear, water toys, kayaks and such, or rent them when you get there.

The food is great and the water is crystal clear and one can choose upscale accomodations, with all the amenities for about $120/night, to Motel 6 like accomodations for around $30/night ...or one can simply stay on their boat for free in a local cove or in a marina's slip for daily fees of $0.45 per foot (without electricity) and $0.50 per foot (with electricity).

You can use the Launch RAMP for $3.00 (each use) or have them launch your boat using their very large CRANE for $20.00 (each use) for boats up to 24 ft and $25.00 (each use) for boats over 24 ft.

One often finds the weather to be quite tropical, with aqua seas, warmed to probable temperatures of 85+ degrees, this time of year. The days are often hot and the nights will be cooling and usually so clear and at night, you feel you can almost touch the Milkyway.

There are many places to explore in nearby shops and towns and there is no end to the places to explore for sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, kayaking, beachcombing, etc.

Any excuse to visit this area is a good excuse.
