This was buried in another thread, I think it’s brilliant and deserves its own…

You really ought to show up for skippers meetings, as it's a good gauge of the overall organization of the regatta:

Meyer's Rum - you'll be lucky if there are three bouys out there (somewhere)

Bacardi - There will be some geometric shape set up and a starting line vaguely perpendicular to the wind. There may or may not be a PRO boat

Captain Morgan - while a true course will be set up, few boats will actually be in the starting area on time. However, if CM 100 is served at the slippers meeting then no protests will be lodged or heard. PRO boat will make judgement calls erratically, mainly due to the excessive eye-patch wearing and knee-up stance

Mount Gay - good course set up, a few judge/safety boats and eveyrone wearing the same hat

Goslings Old Rum - your boat will be escorted to the starting area by your assigned "personal assistant" on a 30ft RIB with a personal chef and fully stocked bar. PRO boat will be in excess of 110 feet complete with fitness area and lap pool. Wind will be artificially enhanced to a perfect 15kts with shifts less than 10 degrees. All 90 boats will sail to their exact handicap and there will be a tie for the leader's board.

Jay forgot (the most important) one:

Don Q – the RC will be perfect. However, the PRO takes his life in his hands if he tries to bump up the start time on Sunday due to weather conditions. When Don Q is in town, nothing is as important as the party. Nothing...

This did not apply at the SF NOOD. The MT Gay was way off on their course set up.

That's because it was in San Francisco, they always try to do things to show it's different there. Still can't beat a handle of Mount Gay.

I dunno - I'm a big fan of Cruzan. A pure sugar cane rum made in a 5 step distillation process after which it's cut to 80 proof using St. Croix pure rain water. Drink the islands man.

I can't argue with Cruzan. I used to live on St Croix and toured that factory a few times. They still ferment that rum in the same 300 plus year old oak casks. If you saw the place, you'd think twice about drinking it but that's what makes it soo good to me. You're right, it comes out at around 150 to 160 proof, then they take it down a few notches. Bars down there us it as well rum. When I bartended down there, I was told to mix more rum than soda, sice it was cheaper. I come back to the states and see some bars have it as top shelf rum.

It appears to me there is serious need of rum education:

I can only speak for Goslings Old Rum as something I can regularly drink straigh/on the rocks.

Can't speak for Cruzan personally. What regatta will they be serving that liquor of the gods?

Oh, and I need a good description of a regatta that presents Pink Champaigne at the finish (and you know which one I refer to smile ). How about "just get your f*ggin boat out here and sail"?

Seacats hosted a Cruzan rum party at the '09 Tybee 500 in Islamorada. I think we went through four or five cases of rum in one night. There's a slight possibility of a repeat at the F18 NA's. Though Tybee sailors can put an above average dent on rum supplies, I doubt we can water down the entire F18 fleet!

Then I'll take your word for it. Would be a nice first prize for the crew, since the driver always gets the pickle dish

+1 on the Ron Zacapa. I just brought 2 bottles home from the Duty Free shop at the airport...
It's the best rum I've ever had as well.
