Posts: 20 | Could someone please explain to me why I get more questions about my Johnson 18 than I ever get about my Nacra 6.0NA. Good golly, every gas station I stopped at I had one or more people asking about the J18. Nobody EVER asks about the catamaran when I travel with it. Are multihulls that reviled?
Nacra 6.0NA to kill myself quickly and a Johnson 18 to do it a little slower.

Posts: 20 | Nope, A Johnson 18 is not an outboard (well at least not in my case). We have his and hers boats in this household, as my wife dispises the catamaran. Too fast, too dangerous, too scary. Bah!
Anyways, I have always liked the Johnson 18 so I picked one up. Wonderful little boat. It does not have a monsterous sail plan but it does carry a main, jib and assymetrical spinnaker. It's an absolute blast off the wind and suits my wife much better than the Nacra. It's no catamaran, but it shines brightly in it's own way.

I thought the correct term was "monoslug".

Posts: 20 | Slug would imply slow, which this is not. On a spinaker reach I can keep pace with my brothers Hobie 16. Even he bugs me to take it out more often. None the less, it is no substitute for my 6.0. It really does put speed in perspective when you switch from boat to boat.
I just wish the monohull crowd would loosen up and give catamarans a break. In all my years of racing perf, whenever I broached the subject of catamaran sailing, i was quickly drownd out by a chorous of "Get a real boat!" heckling.
I dont know about you but real sailing is a screaming double trap reach at 18 or 19 kts with everyone piled on the back of the bus grinning ear to ear and praying the next wave doesnt cause a lee bow to stuff and bring an abrupt end to the fun.
