Just how cold is it down in Florida, or is that UV protection on you ? We are still sailing without wetsuits in NY.

Uv protection??
I am wearing a PFD, trap bucket, shorts, shoes and a cut-off t-shirt. Our air temps are in the low 90s and the Gulf is still in the high 80s.

Dave,

Nice pic,.......looks like a perfect day to be out too.

By the way,...do you know the Texel # for the P19MX?........I cannot seem to find one.........there are 2 P19MX in St. thomas we race against,....they just drop their Texel 1 point,....seems like the mx is a whole lot faster rig than just 1 point...

..thanks,

Bruce, Thanks..it WAS a great saling day.

Sorry, I don't know that information. Bet Wouter might, though.

To be quite honest, I have seldom been able to sail the MX package to it's potential. I bought the MX rig with the thought of adding a bit more horse power. My wife loves it in "ideal" conditions, but is actually scared of it when the wind gets cranking. It does require some attention. I sail it solo up to about 10 knots. After that I get overpowered. Solo, it can become a liability if I venture too far from the beach. For that reason, if I hit the Gulf by myself for the day, I use the MX main with a stock roller furl jib. I have been caught out in the Gulf when the seabreeze filled a little stronger than predicted. We have to negotiate a narrow pass into our bay, and it can be a real adventure "short-jibing" in the confused seas with that jib. The battens keep the boat powered up, and once you have it up, you have to live with it.

I presently have various sail combinations and I am looking into putting a self tacking jib with a snuffer system for a chute.

The Catman has a great setup on his Mystere 6.0. Large roller furling jib and a Tornado chute from Robbie. He single hands with all the bedsheets up. MY HERO!! LOL

Dave,

Let me tell you my observations of the P19 down here.

There are 2 active teams,...both on st. Thomas,...both the teams had sailed/trained with a former P19 Natl champ, John Holmberg,....the keep the boats full throttle all the time...John Holmberg raced a I-20 for the last 2 years before retiring....

First they put spinnakers on the P19,....which was good,..because it got them OUT OF MY CLASS...:-),....the last 2 years, they took the spinns off,..and put on smyth MX rigs,....the boats are truely TURBO!

In last years Rolex,.....the 2 P19MX teams would race for 70 to 80 minutes courses, only to be seconds away from each other,...quite the battle they had going.

In one race,..this P19MX duo was within 50 seconds of a I-20 w spin , at the finish( we had 2 classes[ spin- nonspin], 1 start).

so, as you say,..yes,...in 12 and over,...the MX is a true wild machine,......which is why I would like to see a Texel rating......( there is none listed in the Texel site..)
