Obviously, you are not on your first rodeo with a tank.... Putting your sump in the basement is a Huge WAF!!!!
I assume you are using metal halides for your stoney corals? How much light? Do you use a plenum or just an inch of live sand. Given the amount of coraline algae...(very nice) are you using a calcium reactor? How much help has your algae refugium tank in your sump provided? What kind of flow do you put into your tank from the sump... It looks pretty moderate... thus all the powerheads.... Its a very sterile tank... congrats! Do you have a chiller plumbed into the system as well as emergency power???? it would be a shame to go through a week without power ...
Do you struggle to keep the front glass clean? It is always messy to have to brute force clean the glass with a razor... pisses the wife off with the mess..
Very nice tank!!

Posts: 2,844 42.904444 N; 88.008586 W | Thanks Mark,
I'll try and answer your questions. Other than a NSW tank with naturally caught livestock from the Boynton Beach area years ago, this IS my first Reef tank. Plumbing to the basement was actually pretty easy in that the the area was right over an unused portion of my 'unfinished' basenemt. I started with the older Power Compacts- and now use TaoTronics LEDS! only, no MH's. After much research, I only use about an inch average in the Display tank, and none in my DIY sump. As you can see, much of my set up is DIY. Between Craigs LIst buys and DIY, I saved thousands. I do have ample Coraline algae, all natural over about 17 months with only a few seeder live rocks early on. My macro algae in my sump is 'chaeto', and works great on keepihg my Nitrates and Phosphates at Zero. I do occassionlly hand dose 'kalwasser' though, no Ca reactor. I'm flowing about 40 x my 125 reef tank per hour total. No chiller needed with the Led's.
It is a very stable, sterile tank,
Thanks for looking!
I keep the front glass clean with a Mag Float cleaner, about 5 minutes everu 3 days.
I'd love to see yours

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Nice work. Would you recommend any "beginning coral reef for 'tards" online or in bookstores?
Because I need another expensive hobby...

Because I need another expensive hobby... If that wasn't just sarcasm, 3reef.com and then CL and local reefers selling stuff, it's not too bad.
