Posts: 2,844 42.904444 N; 88.008586 W | Do you like your Gull harness?
I've lent 2 different harnesses, one in Houston TX, one in in Racine WI, and somehow, never got either one ofr them back.
When I ask the person who I had thought said they were responsible, it's like ? Never saw it!
Billy R. was given one of my harnesses over 10 years ago in TX city, and someone at the Racine N.A.'s a few yuears ago the other.
Anyways, whats the best harness for a medium light guy, etc.
5'8", 160#'s?
Anyone use and like a gull harness?
Due to safety factors, I now only want a full harness- don't ask my why.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | It appeared he answered his own question: "Due to safety factors..." My inquiry was in response to this allegation that one type of harness was "safer" than another. I guess it would be worth asking why he considers a full harness more "safe" than a half-harness. Perhaps the half harness slipped off in use? And finally, it says "Don't ask my why", so I will ask the user, not 'my' (whomever "my" is...)

Posts: 3,906 Clermont, FL, USA | Magic Marine are bringing out a new harness and will be available in September.... It is suppose to be pretty schmick. Some of our team have been trialing it over the last 6 months. I know they will be available through Magic Marine (Australia)in September... but will not be available through all Magic Marine Dealers.... What I think Helen is saying is that Magic Marine will be selling the Goodall harness under the MM name. Tisk Tisk Helen. With that said I have a Goodall harness and I'm happy with it.

Posts: 1,246 Orlando, FL | I've got a Goodall Harness (now for sale), used it 2x and the "boys" didn't like it.
Purchased a MagicMarine harness and "boys" are very comfortable.

Posts: 554 Boston, Ma | I wear the Banks Skiff Pro harness, and I like it a lot. Nappy style with only one adjustment at the shoulder. Takes a few sails to break in, but after that it is very good. I haven't figured out a way to mount cleats on it for chicken lines, so I have our boat rigged with hooks that attach to the trapeze ring which works pretty well. http://www.landfallnavigation.com/banksskiffpro.html

I prefer this method of chicken lines, as it's easier to get out of (just drop the trap ring, rather than try and uncleat two chicken lines and the trap ring) when things go sideways.

Sorry 'bout the typo- meant to say 'don't ask ME why'
Each type full or sit harnesses each have very inherent dangers! There have been threads on this. In a nutshell- the a full has the hook caught or wrapped around a thin line in a turtle situation- well remember someone's brother in a Tornado event drowning once? I had always liked my Murray's sit racing harness cause I always figured I could get it off easier in an emergency. Yes-I know about the ball instead- have you seen many in use?
As Mark said, when it's getting nuclear, the boat on its side is doing 4-5 knots, you get it righted with the kite snuffed, sheets loose, and the top of the back is like one Major Sea Anchor. Been there, after you ran a chute for hours straight your arms are a bit tired and in the distance race situation, things can go bad real quick. With the forces encountered in this situation, even your PFD and/or rash guard doesn't seem to help in extreme conditions. Luckily, I was finally able to get back on the righted boat- but I swore I'd never use a full one, and for bouys probably still will use my Murray Sit racing-VERY comfortable and with over 10 years of heavy usage (not me being heavy) I'm going full for my distance racing.
Maybe a Magic Marine or Evan a Murray's full.
AND I agree a hook on a keeper that slides on the chicken line and tightens down under tension is much safer in an emergency than a tightly locked in cleat on the spreader bar.
Sorry 'bout any typos, on my IPhone
