Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Needing to pull the daggarboard out for gelcoat fairing. Questions: - Looks like some sort of adhesive between base plate and deck. Any thoughts on non-destructive removal? - recommended sealant between plate and deck when I reinstall? - when I replace the screws, should I consider bedding in thickened epoxy (assuming they're just screwed into the sandwich material)? If so, will I be able to remove them in the future? Should I wax the screws?

Posts: 21 Quebec, Canada | I would remove the screw and heat the plate gently with a propane torch until it comes off.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | well...first, remove the screws and see if you can gently pry it up. You might be surprised. If not, use a 5200 remover and soak the area (it will degrade any 5200 that it comes in contact with - so keep this in mind). Let that soak a while and remove the parts. The blade under the edge might give it some incentive and might help work the remover into the joint a little if it is problematic.
Reseal it with Sikaflex UV.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | that's the top of the daggarboard trunk. The mast base sits on that plate/ball

Yeah, it's not a cat, but you twerps have a pretty good experience base in composites, foils and lightweight multihulls...
