As the Area D Multihull Representative to US SAILING, I am very pleased to announce that the Area D South Qualifier for the 2005 US SAILING Multihull Championship will be November 6 and 7, 2004, at the new Pineda Park in Melbourne, Florida. Performance Sail and Sport will host the event, and owner Scott Hubel has been instrumental in working with city and county officials to make the new park “catamaran friendly” by getting overhead power lines moved and a non-motorized launch area constructed.
The event is open to all Area D South competitors sailing beach catamarans under 22.5-feet in length with a valid Portsmouth rating. The winner will be eligible to compete in the US SAILING Multihull Championship in Spring 2005, which will be raced on 10, new Hobie Tigers in Southern California.
Area D South includes Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the eastern half of Arkansas. Last year’s qualifier was sailed in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Details regarding lodging, directions and other logistics will be on-line at
http://www.ussailing.org/alter/ as they become available. Questions and comments can be submitted at the same address.
Hope to see you there –
