Posts: 890 Dunedin Causeway, FL | I've raced against both the M4.3 (DPN 78) and Bob’s H14 Maxi (DPN 82) and I am hugely impressed with the H14M speed, given the difference in hull age. I do not believe the Portsmouth numbers for either of these boats due to lack of real race results HEAD TO HEAD. If the F14 class purposes to run without corrections, how about testing the concept with these existing boats? Since both the M4.3 and the H14 Maxi are available in the Panhandle and you guys sail all year, how about a shoot out? John W.(M4.3 sailor), if you don't think you can sail to Bob's level, maybe we could put some Rock Star on your M4.3 to keep naysayers from claiming the results are not fair. Randy vs Bob…that ought to draw some attention! Go, Bob! Show ‘em your Blaster! David Dunedin, FL Mystere 5.0XL | | | Neither fit the proposed rule...

Posts: 3,293 Long Beach, California | Hi David - I gave my input but wasn't heard. Neither the 4.3 nor Bob's boat fit the proposed rule. I'm with you - my original idea was that H14s could add the screecher set up, revive the boat, and we'd race 'em straight up. That's not what the rule is set up for, though. The 4.3 with the 'chute is way over the proposed area limit, and way under without it. Leaves me out.

Posts: 591 Bradenton, FL | I'd like the details on that boat: length, width, mast hieght, sail areas, boards or boardless, etc. And your opinion on how it sails in differing conditions. I see two people onboard in that picture, is it too much to handle 3 sails and the tiller for single-handed racing? What if you ditched the jib?

Posts: 3,293 Long Beach, California | Specs and class rules on the web site at http://mystereowners.org/mystere/ - I think I'm the only one in the class that sails with crew. Pretty much everyone else sails it single-handed. We don't have a minimum crew weight, so anyone light or heavy, one up or two, can get out and compete. Some used boats available in the $2K range, brand new around $4K.

Posts: 3,293 Long Beach, California | Check out the current class rules - and tinker to your heart's content. I'm looking at a self-tacker for the jib right now. The guys that started the class wanted us to be able to tinker. You can go all out with a mid-pole snuffer or a snail, all new hardware, use any sail maker, and on and on. I'm not sure I could build something for less than I purchased the boat for...
Lemme know if you guys want Don's broken ARC 22 mast - I could deliver it to Spring Fever if you want.
