Does anyone know when performnce cat started making the prindle boats? I am looking at a prindle 19 and was wondering when they switched from straight fiberglass constructions to foam core, or if the did. The boat I'm looking at is a 1989. Would this be an older heavy version, or one that might still be competative today?

My boat is a 1986 and came with sail #367 I think 1986 was the first year.

Ok, here is what I remember. The prindle 19 came out in 1985. In 1987, the factor added a bulkhead in front of the front crossbar or at the front crossbar. I don't know why. In 1992 the rudders were changed (more elliptical). The square top was later added. Probably around 1997 from the factory. Any year will work just fine for racing. Add the square top and upgrade the rudders or add a spinnaker will make the boat even be faster.

If I heard correctly, Smyth sailed one of the original P19s in the Worrell 1000 and won, as well as broke the current record at that time.

Otherwise, I've sailed/raced P18-2s and P19s and they're wonderful boats.
