My 1981 prindle tiller lines are fraying where the rudders clamp down. The line is visibally worn through and I am wondering how I can replace the line without loosing the complicated path it weaves. There are also two lines one for lowering the tillers and another for raising. Any idea what size line and length to use?????

Kevin -
I beleive the lines are 1/8". Just cut a short piece off and bring to your boat shop. As to the length get a total of 4 pieces 6' long and cut to fit. I use two different colors to tell the crew which line to pull (teal to pull up & purple to lower). As to the weaving just untie the stopper knot in the rudder blade and sew the new line on and just pull the other end of the rudder line (which has the ball or T-handle on it and it will thread through.

Kevin,
Actually, the rudder lines are 3/16". Be sure that you buy good stuff from somewhere like West Marine, not just Home Depot stuff. Rather than sew, you can simply tape the end of the new rope to the old and pull it through. I do recommend that you take a couple of digital pictures first, and of course, only do one side at a time so that you can check the other one as a pattern if need be...
