Posts: 3,528 Looking for a Job, I got credi... | After a few weeks on Folly Beach and one day of great sailing, Charlie flipped my 5.2 and snapped the mast. The Danforth and ten feet of chain kept the boat from going anywhere... except over. If anyone knows of a 5.2 mast for sale round-abouts Charleston, S.C., let me know. A little belated but, what is the best way to secure a cat on the beach? I've already received some advice. Surfer guy said, "Dumb-a** should have taken his mast down." Thanks for any help. Doug I think in this case Surfer Guy might have been correct.

Dig two holes in the ground on either side of your sidestay chainplates and put a plank or 2 by 2 in it. Tie lines to these and burry then. These are called ground anckors. Position your boat i the middle and tie it off to the chainplates or even using the trapeze wires. Fro grassland the same will work but here special spiral ground ankers can bought that screw themselfs in and are strong enough. We use these methodes all the time here on the beaches and we do get some major storms during our sailing sailing.
When expecting a hurricane than it is best to take of your mast as well as these storms are strong enough to uproute houses.

Check out www.seacats.org classifieds, and post a wanted on there. Come to the Outback Regatta in October, I can hook you up with 2 of the owners. Dave Mosley Team SEACATS
