Hi all,
Snow is already on the ground and sadly sailing season is officially over. I will be doing some upgrading and repairing to my 5.2 this winter so if anyone has parts that work (doesn't need to look pretty) i might be interested. Specifically: new mast base and stem, daggerboards (my two brand new foss boards delamed so nacra brand preffered), rudder castings, roller furling setup. I will probably be deployed sometime in the near future with the military so i wouldn't be able to buy till probably feb or march. But if ya have any of this stuff and you want to sell it off, post it here or email me at [email protected]. Thanks all and merry christmas! One more thing....i'm looking for a good book to better my sailing abilities...recomendations??

Reid

I highly recomend Phil Berman's books: "Catamaran Sailing From Start to Finish" and "Catamaran Racing"

The best beachcat sailing book I have found until now, is Rick White's "Catamaran sailing for the 90's". You can buy it trough the catsailor.com store.

About 1 meter of my bookshelf is sailing related, and Rick's book is one of those I keep returning to. The others are Frank Bethewaite's "High performance sailing", Marchaj's "Sail performance" and Tom Whiddens "The art and science of sails".

Ricks book is the best for beachcat-sailing.

Thanks [Re: Rolf_Nilsen] #40534

I agree with Rolf, I have this tendency to memorize books the first time i read them, but there is always something new that i have forgotten every time I re-read Rick's book.

I also think "Catamaran sailing for the 90's" is the best, but alot has happened in the last decade.

Rick is there any possibility of seeing "Catamaran sailing for the 00's" ?

Reid - One of the nice parts of living in Alabama is this time of the year with the fronts coming down, the winds going up, and the temps finally in the reasonable range of 60's and 70's. I'll think of you this Sat as we hold our weekly club races and my 5.2 will be out among them. Got to ask about that one comment on roller furling - any suggestions or comments on adding that feature? I have the luxury of trailer sailing with mast always up and a 50' drive to the launch ramp, but need to single hand almost all the time. Adding a roller furling has been suggested. Any thoughts or experience you have with a 5.2 and roller furling would be appreciate.

I too as a novice cat person have Rick's book - and the videos - and they are reviewed over and over - they are super.

IN addition to Rick's book, I really like "High Performance Sailing" by Bethwaite. This book is so jammed pack with very many details about how sails, blades work at the higher speeds both Skiffs & Cats sail at. Extremely informative.

Mike.

Maybe it would offend us if we understood it.
