That's really neat! Looks like the only Div 9 regatta that was counted was Gone With the Wind and that they jumbled all the F18s together regardless of manufacturer. I love the concept though.

Posts: 248 Colorado | Nice job, Matt. It's fun to see how we stack up. But like most rankings, prolific sailors are rewarded with a higher ranking without really performing at a higher standard. Wayne Moneyham and Wick Smith are examples of great sailors who didn't sail the 20 much last season and ended up low on the list. Is there a formula that takes into account your result in each race, the number of competitors and weighs better results in big regattas more heavily?

Posts: 1,884 Detroit, MI | The real hard work was doing all the various permutations on various systems. We did it for the 16's first, since we had the most data and the broadest coverage (that's why some regattas don't have any results in other classes). But then, what seemed to work for the 16's didn't for the 17's (the next class we did). Seems that large fleets in one area of the country skewed the results too much. Back to the drawing board. Finally, after about a year of fooling around with it, we settled on the formula, Fluffy entered the data (it even gives points for RC duty) and we put it up. Getting the data was a hassle. Usually, we had to grab it off web sites. The quality was pretty bad, too. No first names. No last names! No automated entry here - Fluffy put it in all by hand. We're putting up a recommended reporting format for 2005 that'll (hopefully) make it easier. The spreadsheets on the HCA web site have all the formulas and data entry sheets removed so that they'll download in a reasonable amount of time. The full, working Hobie 16 spreadsheet is over 10Mb! Now it's time to go set up the 2005 sheet. This crap never ends. | | | Re: Hobie Class 2004 Competitor Rankings Now Posted!

It is looking better, looks like a lot of work. Why don't you have all the regattas for division 9. It seems to me that the results of the rankings would not be balanced unless you scored each sailors best five regattas. I know it is hard to get the results from the different regattas though.
Jake Does your Tiger have a new hull design ? This is 100% my fault David. In previous years, I have always grabbed the results from the organizers at the end of the regatta, but this year it was done differently. When I got the results, in one lump, they were scanned pictures of the written results. Like, 20 separate JPG's of scanned, hand-written, results for each class. I actually have a spreadsheet started, but with the holidays and all, I just feel behind on it. Sorry. Tracie | | | Re: Hobie Class 2004 Competitor Rankings Now Poste

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I think somebody screwed up...I'm still 3rd from last in the country and that can't be right! Matt, There are a few sailors listed at the bottom with no race data...I didn't sail a Tiger in a regatta last year and probably shouldn't be on the list. If I were higher up I might have not said anything but I'm sitting down there at the bottom!

Posts: 1,884 Detroit, MI | With the addition of some more data from Division 14 (and the corrections of some discrepancies that people noticed), the results have been updated through 1/18/05 /sorry, Jake - you've been expunged. Tracie - if you can get Division 9's results to Fluffy before the end of the month, we'll include them, too. | | | Re: Hobie Class 2004 Competitor Rankings Now Poste
