Probably very few, unless on a ship. This is not an ocean vessel.
b what are parts availability is like?
None in the USA, so fewer in Australia. To replace parts, you usually use another boat's parts or make them.
c what is the appropriate price range for one in good condition?
In the USA between 15K and 25K US dollars
d what to look for in a used one.
rigging, hulls are very strong, but look for delamination (grind off gelcoat and replace with epoxy at first opportunity), bent rudder pins from going aground. Other than that they are bullet proof, fast and fun.

The last bid for the Mac36 was $50000Aud. The 3 bids made to date were all by the same person- which more than suggests collusion and price fixing.

the seller must pay e bay a percentage of the final bid total. period. this makes price fixing almost impossible. if you are in doubt, check out the seller's feedback or dont bid. for 50 000 aud id have thought you could find something better there than a mac 36.

For $25000 Aud I was tempted. The fact I've never heard of any Mac36's here meant a query re parts. What did get my goat was the fact that the sole bidder upped his bid 3 times before the time limit expired. You don't bid against yourself, or did I miss something here?

If you are talking multis in OZ its 15 to 20k for a seawind 24. Most other multis here seem to start from about 100K with the occasional urgent/quickie sale from 35 to 75k depending on condition. Stepping from a beach cat to a trailerable monohull is easy- finding a cheap multi to sail in comfort on extended journeys within the same price range is near impossible.

The Mac is quite a versatile boat, by the way.
We used ours for racing primarily and it was about the same speed as a Hobie 18 or maybe a bit faster.

Lots of folks have used the Mac as a platform on which to build a cruising boat.., add a deck and/or cabin. It certainly would not qualify for an ocean-going vessel, but could handle short trips.
