Posts: 829 Charleston, SC | What are your thought on a jib luff tensioner setup on an I-20? Right now, it is just set up stock, with the jib halyard tied off at the base of the sail (where the bridles connect). I know it would be beneficial to have a little control over the luff, so how would I go about it? I am thinking that I could just remove the v-cleat that's on the chainplate part (where the bridles connect) and replace it with a small turning block, and then run the halyard through it to the crossbeam. Any suggestions, pics, etc? Trey I-20 314

Yeah, put a small turning block on it and send it back to the main beam. You might also consider putting the turning block on a small fairlead riveted to the spin pole directly under the bridle/forestay.

Posts: 829 Charleston, SC | Yep, no roller furler or or self-tacker. Would I want to run it to the spin pole though? I will get a pic of what I am working with this afternoon and post. Thanks Jake. Trey

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | If you run it to the spin pole first, the tension on the jib halyard won't have as much tendency to suck the forestay in toward the front beam because the pole will carry the horizontal load of the line going to the front beam instead of the forestay / bridles.
