One of my friends just gave me a book. The Complete Manual of Catamaran Racing with a copywrite date of 1976.

Just curious if this is an earlier version of Catamaran Racing: For the '90s or if it's a different book? Hardcover, blue, with a picture of a Tornado or Nacra or something on the cover.

Warm regards, Jim

That was my first book published by Dodd, Mead & Co. I wrote it in 1974 but by the time we got through with all the editing and junk it was a few years later.

The second book was published in 1982 by Dodd, Mead and sold really well, but they went bankrupt and I didn't get any royalties.

And the Cat Racing: For the 90s we published through RAM Press, Book Publishers in 1992.

I am late for the 2002 book, as you might have noticed. And I believe there have been enough changes over the past 13 years to warrant a new, fresh look. Now, all I have to do is get the energy to do it.

Well cool! I look forward to the new book! (Although I'm quite sure I still have lots to learn from the two I have now.)

Good luck with that and thanks in advance!

Well, I've just finished the blue book now, Rick. I enjoyed the more conversational style of that book over the yellow book, but I'm wondering how much of the information is dated? I guess obviously if the blue and yellow books disagree I should go with what the yellow book says, but can you think of anything specific that maybe I should ignore? Heh. Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Warm regards, Jim

The blue book was basically a collection of articles I wrote for Sailboat Week Magazine at the time. Given a choice, the yellow book is by far more up to date.

It may be quite a wait for the next book. We haven't even started thinking much about it yet.

Was it really your birthday yesterday (4/4)? It was mine as well.

Yes, it really was his birthday yesterday. I feel sorry for you, Tim. Did you know that Aries men are the only ones who are not compatible with females in any sign of the Zodiac, including their own?

That explains a lot. Don't tell my wife of 15 years though. ;-)
