How many women ever post on this forum or even read it? The only ones I know for sure are me, Tracie, Tami, Catwoman and Bonnie.

Things sure have changed since the 1970s and 1980s when almost half of the sailors were women. It's sad.

Or maybe a bunch of you with generic user names are actually women? if so, please come out of the closet so I am not so alone out here.

She's not into posting but my partner is a woman, she's done the Great Texas and the Cholla Classic, and we're starting a cat rental business on the beach in Santa Barbara CA.By the way, couldn't help but notice how many views this thread has gotten, over 500 for only 5 replies, is that indicative of the horny male sailor to sailor babe ratio? She's totally into the sailing empowerment thing and making beach cat sailing more accessible to women, part of her motivation for starting the rentals....

I don't know about the horny sailor ratio thing (and is that just for male sailors, BTW?), but I could name at least ten female catsailors off the top of my head right now. I don't know why they don't post. Maybe they're all busy bringing home the bacon and frying it up in the pan.

As for me, I don't have a whole lot of advice to give about diamond wire tension (for example) that (most of) you guys don't already know, so I can merely parrot information that I've learnt through books, videos, and paying attention. It's not that I'm such a natural fanatic, but in my house, you either talk about catamarans or you...talk about catamarans.

I think I should just start busting into more threads, anyway...offer to go get everyone virtual beers, at least.

On our beach it's always the guys (boyfriends/husbands) who are sailing, wives / girlfriends are usually sitting on the beach sunning themselves. We have very few really pro-active female sailors. I'm not counting those women who ocassionally go sailing with their menfolk for a romantic evening cruise in no wind.

The pitiful "sailing" club (its really a drinking club with a sailing problem, LOL!)we still have also does not have any active women (other than a crew who's a wife or daughter of a skipper).

I find that very disappointing also.

It saddens me to read that a certain female poster above generalizes by suggesting that this thread is only read by horny male sailors...That hurts my feelings.

Personally, with an attitude like that i wouldn't let you set foot on my boat. I've been racing cats since I was ten. Guys have to earn their spot on my boat as crew.

Bo Derek was in a tastefully done photo shoot with "her" Hobie 14 in 1980. Her pix were used in the official Hobie magazine including the front page. I still have a copy.
