Hi all,
Just back from Reggatta. All cats had one start but results where given seperatly for Div.3 Mixed cats over 14', Div.3a Mixed Cats under 14', Hobie 16's, Tapan4.9 sloops.
Div3, was Altered F16 one up, Blade F16 one up, Hobie Tiger F18, Nacra 5.8 x 2, Stingray, Hobie 18 & 17's. The courses suited the Spinnaker boats F16 and F18. Three windward and returns and only one triangle which you could mostly fly the spinnaker on.
Saturdays first race was 10 to 5kts. Second race was 8 to 5kts. Sunday first race was 12 to 5kts. Second race 8 to 15 kts. Altered was first over the line each race out of entire cat fleet with the closest competitors generaly the Taipan 4.9 sloops with the Hobie Tiger and Blade also mixing it up. Results for this reggatta where spoilt by boats being unable to finish some races within time limit and being late for starts also the Blade retired from the last race after a capsize. Full results will be posted at bbsc.netspeed.com.au they where not available before I left reggatta.
The most positive part of the reggatta was drifting out to the start area for the first race Sunday where the breeze filled in, enabling Altered to fly a hull with spinnaker up as the other boats drifted out to the start area. The responses from the skiffs and young mono sailors was very positive even some old Flying Dutchman sailors where talking about it on the beach. I just couldn't help but show of as the skiffs and moths where stuck in the water unable to plane. Downwind the ability of the F16 one up to perform in light winds has to be seen to be believed and Altered seems to be able to get it going in lighter and lighter winds each time.
Regards Gary.
