Posts: 1,252 California | Hobie Cat Europe has been working with Nissan over in Europe. They are doing some cross marketing. Nissan has a truck with a "Hobie" package. They are providing these trucks to some of the Tiger sailors over there and to Hobie Europe. They had been waiting for the conditions to be right at the "Trench" over in France. A place used for speed trials. It was happening last week and they got the following video. This includes a dramatic pitch pole that looks very similar to the A class cat pitch posted here about a week ago. The boat goes airborne bows-and-all… after a big stuff! Actually looks like they may have hit bottom. http://www.hobieco.com/linked_images/nissan_hobietiger.wmv | | | Re: Hobie Nissan Tiger Video / Trench - TCD

Posts: 47 | The Texas City Dike water conditions could be compared to the ditch. When the wind is blowing directly out of the South at TCD you have protected waters 8 feet deep for 4 miles. Last weekend it was blowing 30 knots out of the North so the water was rough on the beach side. But during the Early Spring and late fall you can get some kick butt South winds with this smooth water. We should invite Nissan USA down to the dike to create another commercial. Green & Tomko could show off their stuff.

Posts: 1,252 California | What caused it? Nothing more than a HUGE gust from behind... that's it! To answer a few other questions posted here... no, not a proto type of the next Hobie... just a Tiger as the post title said. Yeah they had the jib off on that run... it was smokin windy and gusty. No the sinnaker pole didn't break off. Not even after the pitch. By the way, the pole is there because it has to be for sheeting the jib on the self tacker system. They used the jib on other runs. Do we have more footage (at Hobie Cat USA)? No this clip was hijacked from a site in Europe. I suppose Nissan or Hobie Cat Europe has more and will share at a later date. Did any one else notice that the dagger boards were in upside down in one of the shots? I figured they were just filling the slot. Ther board head would make the slot virtually solid in the bottom of the hull that way. Trying all kinds of different speed ideas I suspect. I have a similar truck, too, and towing more than one boat with a six cyl. gas-powered vehicle does not go well, particularly if it's windy or hilly. Wouldn't it be great to get better performance and better gas mileage? Even a 6-liter diesel Ford F-250 gets 20 mpg. Imagine what a small turbo-diesel truck would get.

Posts: 3,293 Long Beach, California | I had an '81 Datsun pickup with a diesel - it was a while ago, but I remember getting some really good mileage. With biodiesel becoming more and more available, we're looking at a diesel engine for our next purchase to bridge between our gas-hungry SUV and our someday-hydrogen car. Jeb Bush has announced he wants Florida to be the first state on a hydrogen economy. They just added hydrogen airport vehicles and a fueling station at Orlando airport. I agree that it is odd we don't have options here that we had 25 years ago... Datsun became Nissan in the early 80s I think... Hey Matt - how's that for a hijacked thread. I bet you thought we'd be talking about the boat! We want the Hobie truck! okay, yes... I admit it - I'd want the triple-boat trailer and the cool boat graphics, too.
