I own an older TheMightyHobie18 with the original 28ft. Mast. I’m building a taller Hobie 18 SX mast from an old standard 28foot mast(and a comp tip) that has no hardware on it. Does the hardware mount in the same place using the same holes as the original masts? Does anyone know where I can get the measurement specs for hardware on an SX mast? Since I don’t race (time mostly) has anyone heard of building taller mast than the standard 29’7”SX mast? (We like to play)

I believe that the hounds are higher on the SX mast. When I was researching putting the spin on my 18, I found that the comptip part numbers were the same between the 18 and SX, and that the part numbers for the standing rigging were different. From that I deduced that the ~1.5 foot difference was in the metal part of the mast, and that the hounds were at the top of the metal in a similar fashion to the regular 18 but 1.5 feet higher.

Thanks for the reply. It's a start. It makes sense that at least the standing rigging would move up some. I'm also trying to locate another SX in my area to measure.

thanks again.

Just confirming that the 18SX mast extrusion is ~18" longer than the standard 18. The comp-tips are the same. I have both set ups and ended up transferring the SX spinnaker tang over to the magnum rig. I made all the measurements you're referring to at that time. Regards, Troy.

I saw an 18SX mast this week right next to a stock AL mast.
The old tang holes were full of pop rivets, and tang was attached 18 inches higher. I shipped them both to my friend in Vienna Austria years ago. I can get my friend to measure them- response by email I betcha!

Thanks dave, much appreciated. Be nice if the extrusions -aluminum and glass - could be measured as well, but I will take anything I can get.
