I lost the forum for about 24 hrs. during the switch of servers due to Katrina. Wow did I miss it!I wasn't aware of how much I depend on this forum to get news, stay in touch etc. until I'd lost it. Just want to thank all those resposible for it. What a wonderful service! I can't believe it was down such a short time considering the circumstances! It has been so helpful to read some of the posts, ie Bob Curry's reports and links to pictures, the spirit of John Williams and the Florida team along with the Texas City Dike crew, all wanting to help those hit by Katrina. This is usually where I begin and end my day, and somehow it really makes a difference in how connected I feel to many out there. Thanks folks!

Ditto Brian!

Thanks for the nice words. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Chad, our tech guy who has his company in Gulfport, MS, called me yesterday. After returning to what was left of his home, he was able to salvage about 4 boxes of his personal stuff, nothing from his office and decided to move to Austin, TX. His brother's and parent's houses were destroyed. They are dissolving the company since they are losing most of the clientel and he is moving away for good.
Sad story.

But, he did have some good news. FEMA has allowed the server in New Orleans data center gasoline to keep the generators running. So, if they can keep the site up and running, we will stay with them -- If they survive this and keep on running, they surely have proved they are an awesome date center. And they will need our further support.

The site is still running out of the New Orleans date center, although the Houston center is almost all set up to take over.
It has been a mess and we are very lucky that we have only had minimal down time.
Thanks for your patience,
Rick

Yeah! Ditto's here too! It's amazing how dependant one gets
on this website. I got a lot of anxiety when I hit my catsailor icon and kept getting an error message. I think I'm ready for the Betty Ford Clinic! Or maybe the Mary Wells Clinic down in the Keys.

I check the Forum every morning; kind of nice to know there are other weird people out there with the same passion for these wind machines.

I feel bad for all the sailors and the lost boats in those areas; I know they were active and they loved what they were doing. If anyone wants to move up to Bufflalo, NY we can find them a spot on our beach; we only have four five months of sailing, but we never get hurricanes, earthquakes, or tornadoes.

Of course you do wear winter parkas for the other seven months and you have to keep your skis and snow shoes in your car, along with an emergency kit for survival in a snowbank. We find it's easier to just sit in front of a fireplace with a glass of wine.

For us non-US catsailors, this forum has become a regular (daily) port of call. We've come to looking forward to the comments of many of the regular forum posters (many of whom we've never met or will meet). Our thoughts and prayers inevitably go out to those who have lost family, friends, property, or livlihoods and to those who may not have lost anything but are prepared to get off their b*tts and help those who have.
So from us b****y foreigners a thankyou to all the Catsailor team members. In the scheme of things this forum may not seem terribly important, but to many of us it is!!!

PS Here in the UK there are several appeals running to provide funds/goods to organisations like the Red Cross who are currently providing help and aid. I'm sure other European nations and Southern Hemisphere countries have similar programs. Let's trust that the next time a third world nation gets hit big time, the rest of us respond just as fully. If nothing else, the way Katrina brought parts of the Southern US to a standstill makes you begin to realise what such an event must mean to a less rich nation.
