Here is a year end accolade to my girl and all the rest for putting up with: No.1 two trailers and a washroom of "what to hell is that" and when are we going to move it! Keep it moving!

O.K. I can't say anything about wives, but my mother harps on me all the time about all the gear and boats I leave at her house. All my "X's"(3) loved the boats, but probably would've complained about the gear if it was in our places instead of at mum's!

That is why I colonized the garage! No complaints yet from the misses.

Forty-three years ago, when my wife and I were first married and I had three boats around the house, I said to her quite seriously, "for a true sailor, it's easier to get a new wife than it is to "get rid of a good boat"! Now, forty-three years later we are still happily married, and there is still a multitude of boats that dominate our home. The moral, from my perspective is to lay out the ground rules in unmistakable terms (as long as they are not completely "unreasonable") at the start of any "venture", and then there should be only the minimum of misunderstandings along the journey. Worked for us, god bless her.

This is how bad it is.... I just had to COUNT (using my fingers of course) how many boats/water craft I have. I'm pretty sure it's 10 in two different yards. My wife of 20 years doesn't give a rats butt how many I have.....as long as I take her when I go.
Congrats on your anniversary DSYC.

Brian, T-H-R-E-E ? X's?!?!?! That's a cry for help, my friend. You might wanta think about gettin' a dog. Keep you company on that trip up Route 24 to Boston. To quote the late Sam Kinison, " I was married three times......That's how smart I am."

Or (and I don't recall which comedian said it)...

"instead of getting married again, I'm just going to find a woman I hate and buy her a house."

Don't you guys feel somewhat guilty about having a boat and not using it? Maybe you guys have all the time in the world to sail each... but I sure as hell don't and nothing is more depressing than seeing a boat (whether it be a cat in the front yard, or a monohull sitting at a mooring or slip and knowing that it hasn't been sailed in over a year). Sell them off cheap to someone close by so you can race/sail with them.

Unfortunately, we do not all enjoy the benefits of a warm climate, and tend to put away the toys for the winter. Our two Hobie 17's are behind the house, with the inflatable. Sailboards are in the garage, and the 21ft Searay comes out today. But the good news is that Skiing starts soon, and the snow is starting to fall on the Mountains.

"instead of getting married again, I'm just going to find a woman I hate and buy her a house."

Not too far from the truth, Jake, for most of the people I know. I guess I'm kind of lucky:

I just pulled my Hobie 18 magnum off the beach (it's NY; deal with it) and my daughter's H16. We have a few more weeks in the J22 because we're semi-dry. This year I'm so lucky to have a lady by my side that likes beach sailing AND A twenty-nine year old daughter that still owns her own boat and loves going out in sporty stuff. Life is good.

I really think that if more people could see how I live, they would vote "in!".

Have to agree, Started the relationship as a sailor, and will end it as a sailor, my first X did not understand this fact and that is why she is an X. Salt water runs in my blood, if it is not replenished now and again I become very surly. And by the way my fiance (I am only a little slow) is the best, she enjoys sailing and looks the other way when my garage comes into view.

My wife came home with a GREAT idea for Rick and all us guys of this website.......
She is already thinking of the holidays coming up and is always on the lookout for "stuff" to get me for Christmas, Birthdays, Fathers Day etc.. Her problem is because I am fussy about what I want/need she says. (really, I just know what I want and don't want- I'm sure you understand)

Here is the idea,
I fill out my wants, likes, and needs from the Catsailor.com Store on some type of electronic form that Rick and Mary provides. I also, on that form, give the name and email address of everyone I want to know about this list of items I want (wife, girlfriend, mother-in-law etc etc etc). Rick sends the email to everyone on the list saying HE knows what we want. They email back with how much they want to spend and he selects something from the list, gives them the email address of the store and the item number. (and presumably takes it off the list so we don't get doubles).

The beauty of the idea is that WE GET EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT. Wife/girlfriend gets the pleasure of knowing she is getting us exactly what we want. (We can act surprised because really we don't have any idea what she is getting us) and Rick gets more sales. Everything works. Win, win, win.
What do you think?

Greg
