Oh man, I got to my boat yard yesterday, and my N-20 had apparently escaped. It's chain was broken, and it had attacked all the hobies in the yard. 2 of the casualties included a hobie 17 and a hobie 18. The 3 sunfish barely escaped with their gelcoat. Please be on the lookout for a half yellow/ half white N20 running loose. Consider it armed and dangerous. If seen, please report to this forum.

Damn!! Remind me to never get in front of you on the race course. Was there a protest involved here? Couldn't they have just done a penalty turn? Ed

I saw a "butterscotch" ghost ship on my lake, here in Minnesota on Tuesday. It was attacking Alumacraft bass boats and even intimidated a Mastercraft ski boat! Fisherman were sobbing from the carnage wrought.

And there were unconfirmed rumors of nautical mayhem on Thursday, from Devil's Lake, North Dakota!

COULD THIS BE YOUR BOAT ??? (Be warned, the peasants have pitchforks and are roaming the countryside, looking for this MAD beast.)

I'm not sure of the full story behind the name, you'll have to ask MauganH17 about that. Squalus is the navy blue hulled 17 in the first picture, you can barely make out the letters.

Wasn't that the first nuke sub? Or was that the first one that sank?

It was the first one that sank.

I only found this out AFTER I had named the boat. Squalus was Latin for Shark according to some online dictionaries.

The USS Squalus wasn't the first sub to sink, but the story is quite dramatic in that all the crew members that survived the sinking (33) were rescued.

You can read about it here

The sub was eventually recovered, refurbished and recommissioned as the USS Sailfish in 1940. It was decomissioned after WWII and On Veteran's Day 1946, a section of the submarine, including her bridge, conning tower and a piece of the deck, were established as a memorial in the Portsmouth shipyard, dedicated to the accomplishments of the submarine service.

The Latin term squalus is used to describe the genus of spiny dogfishes (sharks).

Thanks for the history tidbit, Matt. It's a good read if you have the time....
