I have the oportunity to buy a Prindle 15 from a friend for my daughter and grandson. I haven't looked at it yet. Can anyone give me advice on price for a 15 or more old P-15 in good condition? Also what is the capacity -2 adults? 1 adult 2 children? or is it more a solo boat? What should I look for in condition, weak points etc? How well does it sail? I believe it does not have a jib. Can one be added like a H-14 turbo?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Howard

It is a concentrated version of the P18 it is an excellent boat to get so long as the decks are stiff and all the hardware is there a jib kit can be added only drawback is wieght capacity but I know a guy about 175 and his two boys 8 and 12 year olds that made a day out of it through the surf ........

The P15 is a unirig designed for one person.
The boom is too low for a crew.
The leeward hull will sink with any wind that will fly a hull.

Hello All,

I had a P-16,..nice boat,..Hurricane took it.

I believe the P-15 is a uni.

FYI, Wouter showed a pic awhile back,...there is a P-15 that competes at Texel,

....the owner has been sailing it for a long time in the race.

...I believe the P15 finishes very high in its class,..I believe it has even won its class in Texel..

...so, yes,..it is a good boat / rig / design....

..so, IMO, if the boat can do Texel,...I would but my kids on it.

regards,

Thanks for all the comments. The price is right and the comments encouraging (other than the sinking of the leeward hull) so we will go ahead and buy it. It will probably be sailed in a lake.

The boom is to low for a crew ! How much downhaul do you use or how old is your Mainsail.Like I said I have seen a number of people on the platform and on the H14 as well. Its not sailing well but its still sailing. It's a nice light tough boat to move around on the beach or wheels too. It's Limbo time..............

Hello!
I am a newby here and a newby sailer as well. I come here to ask a couple of questions.
I bought a hurricane Katrina totaled Prindle Escape last week. It has a couple of finger size hull holes, chiped gelcoat hear and there, no biggies.
The main problem is no sail and a busted mast.
I plan on using this as a play toy and from other posts and descriptions this model is considered a "rental type cat".
Or in other words anyone can operate it, which is good for me.
In my search for a mast and sail, are there sails or masts from other boats that are close enough to use on this Escape for play purposes?
I have the upper 18feet of the original mast and am missing the plastic kneecap ball and the mast up to the break. The stud and whats below are good.
Can I add or subtract parts or cut down a mast from another Prindle model?
Are there sails from other boats that are "close enough".
Thanks a bunch for any help put forth.

This Ebay sail should be an exact fit...you'll just need a mast now! Good luck.

hi,

i owend a couple off years a prindle 15.
It`s a boot wich is at his best if there is lot of waves and wind. It is possible to ad an jib, bot it is to small to sail with a ( big) crew.
The prindle 15 is an older boat, but yes, the last couple of years we kick butt at texel in the 1-up class!!!
